Despite limited training opportunities, South African crews are very much in demand on international sets; Natasha Skoryk explains.
According to a 2017 study on the economic impact of the South African film industry, as commissioned by the National Film and Video Foundation, the film industry in South Africa supplies 21 656 jobs to the economy. With many of the creatives and much of the on-screen talent coming from abroad, the bulk of these jobs are technical crew positions. These local crews are highly skilled and widely commended by the international clients serviced in South Africa.
