WHERE WERE YOU TEN YEARS AGO? We were a new company with one director. We hadn’t even opened our service  division yet.
HOW HAVE THINGS CHANGED IN THE LAST DECADE? The forever-fluctuating Rand makes the service industry like a rollercoaster ride. Times were easy when the Rand was very week, but it had a negative effect with costs going up and summer being so busy. It is the good companies that have survived the strong Rand and competition as new destinations have opened up. Now we work hard to remain competitive and offer the best service to our clients to keep them coming back.
BIGGEST LEARNING CURVE? Finding a good balance in running a business that is so seasonal. Our Directors division dovetails nicely with service, affording us the luxury of being able to maintain a great production team, research department and accounts department which makes the business a lot easier.
BIGGEST IMPROVEMENT? It has to be technology and the Internet. What we can do with a Mac, a camera and a broadband connection is amazing.
HIGHLIGHT? In 2001, being included in The Gunn Report top 25 Most Awarded Production Companies for the first time. We have been included a few more times since then, but the first time was special and something we hadn’t even considered. Kim being in Shots’ list of the 100 Most Creative Minds in 2007 and winning a Gold Lion at Cannes this year.
TEN YEAR GOAL? To be exactly where we are now, working with a great bunch of people who love what they do, doing great creative work with our directors and foreign production houses that we have built up relationships with over the years.
