Sokhulu and Partners up for International Emmy

Sokhulu & Partners, produced by Paw Paw Films and broadcast on SABC1, has been nominated for an International Emmy as Best Drama Series. The award is for the best drama series outside of the USA, so Sokhulu & Partners is competing against Capadocia (Mexico), The Land of the Wind (South Korea), The Protectors (Denmark) and Spooks (UK).

Sokhulu & Partners is about two brothers, Mabuto and Zweli Sokhulu (Melusi Yeni and Thami Africa), who run their own law firm. The show, which debuted in May 2008, is directed by rising star Thabang Moleya (Jacob’s Cross, The Lab, Jozi-H) and produced by Portia Gumede (Izigane Zobaba) and Roberta Durrant (Home Affairs, Stokvel). The storylines are gleaned from true life South African Constitutional Court records, while The Centre for Applied Legal Studies, Wits University, acted as the script advisor in order to ensure the series’ authenticity. “As they are drawn into Constitutional Court matters, where human rights are paramount, complications in both their personal and professional lives begin to take their toll,” says co-producer Portia Gumede. Winners will be announced at a black-tie ceremony on 23 November 2009 at the Hilton New York Hotel. If you would like to help sponsor the attendance of Thabang and Portia, please email a.teabag.product@gmail.com.
