Brent Stirton is a finalist in the Sony World Photography Awards in the Professional Photojournalism and Documentary: Current Affairs category. The Sony World Photography Awards are a global, annual awards programme for both professional and amateur photographers. More than 8 000 images from 48 countries were entered in to the competition. The finalists in each of the categories will be announced on Thursday 22 April 2010 at a ceremony and gala dinner at the Grand Lumier Theatre at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes. Another South African resident making waves in international competitions is David Chancellor, who came third in the People in the News: Stories category at the annual World Press Photo Contest. The competition brings together pictures from all parts of the globe to reflect trends and developments in photojournalism.
