Animation SA member Joburg’s biggest Toon boom studio

Papercut Studios is the largest Toon Boom animation studio in Johannesburg and second largest in the country. Studio director Michael Robertson says, “With our studio running Toon Boom Harmony and having around 40 artists and animators under our roof, we can proudly take this title. We are constantly looking out for talent.”

In February 2010, the studio ran a crash course on Toon Boom Harmony with the help of Harry Ravelomanantsoa, the director of sales for Toon Boom Africa. Ten  individuals were chosen from over 50 candidates. “Our art, story development and animation departments have all grown thanks to the dedication of this new group of talented artists,” says Michael.

Michael says the company had a  great time at MIPTV in April 2010.  “We sat down with massive names like Marvel, Toon Boom, Gaumont-Alphanim, Atomic Cartoons, Skywriters and Teletoon, among others.""With up to six meetings a day, we kept ourselves very busy with the world’s best. We came home with a big service job from Gaumont in France.”

PaperCut will animate 13 episodes of Gaumont’s 52-episode series, The Green Squad, but this means the studio had to halt work on their in-house TV pilot,  The Weird World of Nox n’ Harper, which is in the final stages of pre-production.

On 28 July 2010, Papercut Studios will be showcasing their work at an event hosted by Touchvision at the Refinery For more info, click here.
