As if promoting CamelThorns – a teaser to a planned feature film project – internationally is not enough work, local director/producer/actor team Genevieve Tanya Detering and Nicole Davidow also shot another short-film, Hatchet Popcorn, with an all-Namibian cast and crew in October 2010. This seven minute action movie unveils the story of Robin (Nicole Davidow), an attractive mother, teacher and hit woman in her late 20's, who tries to put an end to her hit woman career once and for all. Her final task is to kill Vickson (Abed Erastus), a tall dark and handsome man - Robin's biggest competitor and former lover. Everything goes according to plan and Robin eventually shoots Vickson, making him her last target before she can call herself a free woman. The plot thickens. Thinking he is dead, Robin escapes the crime scene feeling as emancipated as ever, but little does she know that Vickson too has some tricks up his sleeve where 'Freedom' does not come into play. Hatchet Popcorn was produced and written by G.T. Detering and Nicole Davidow. G.T. Detering also directed and edited the film, while Nicole stars next to Abed Erastus as Robin. The film also features well known radio voice Jacques de Vries who also worked on CamelThorns. This entertaining short film was photographed by Bernd Curschmann, while the sound design and on-set recording credits go to Wojtek and Sonja Majewski from Audio Arts Recording. Art directing credits once again go to Nicci Wilson, and make-up credits to Nadia Du Raan who already impressed audiences with CamelThorns. The film features some animation by local animator Benno Katsch. The film was shot outside Windhoek over one full day and promises many surprises and is bound to provoke discussions. The film will premier in Namibia at the FNCC cinema on 12 January 2011 and will be submitted to festivals across the globe. As with CamelThorns, G.T. Detering and Nicole Davidow manage to match up to an international standard and aim to finally put Namibia on the map of the film industry world-wide. | |||
