GOLDMAN ENVIRONMENTAL PRIZE WINNER AND ANTI-FRACKING ACTIVISTJONATHAN DEAL TO FEATURE IN UPCOMING DOCUMENTARY IN LOCAL

Without prior experience in environmental activism Jonathan Deal takes on the South African government and the powerful oil and gas industry in a bid to stop them from mining for shale gas in vast, pristine but semi-arid Karoo region. With little funding, stressed over wheather he would win the battle, doubt and the temptation to quit lingers on, but he solders on. For over two years, his organisation Treasure Karoo Action Group, manages keep fracking at bay. On April 15, 2013, Deal wins the acclaimed Goldman Environmental Prize in the US and prize money close to R1, 5 million which he injects into his campaign in order to shore up his fight which he hopes to win.

NFVF Quarterly Call for Application Submissions

NFVF Quarterly Call for Application Submissions

The National Film and Video Foundation will now issue quarterly calls for applications for funding in the areas of training, marketing and distribution support, script development and production financing. These calls will be aligned to the quarterly meetings of council and are designed to provide the industry with clear deadlines for submissions each quarter.

All applicants are advised to carefully study the criteria and submission requirements in all areas for which funding is being sought. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Applications received after the deadline will only be considered for the following quarterly meeting of council.

The following categories will be considered for production and development funding:

  • Documentaries
  • Features
  • Short films
  • Television concepts

All applications for production and development must be directed to Thandekile Sishange via email on thandekiles@nfvf.co.za.

The following categories will be considered for training applications:

  • International Bursaries
  • Trevor Jones Scholarship
  • Training Provider funding

All applications for training must be directed to Pretty Mthiyane via email on prettym@nfvf.co.za.

The following will be accepted for Marketing and distribution applications:

  • Support for local festivals
  • Support for local conferences on the sector
  • Support for film marketing programmes that include audience development components
  • Support for self distribution of film product
  • Support for print & advertising of film product

All applications for marketing and distribution must be directed to Lerato Mokopanele via email on leratom@nfvf.co.za.
