The 12 members of the new SABC board have been announced. These are: Magatho Mello (journalist and engineer), Cedric Gina (National Union of Metalworkers of SA president), Peter John Harris (attorney), Pippa Green (journalist), Felleng Sekha (IT law specialist), Clare O’Neil (broadcast consultant), David Niddrie (SA Communist Party), Clifford Motsepe (attorney and ANC Youth League member), Ben Ngubane (former minister of Arts and Culture), Desmond Golding (economist and former SABC board member), Barbara Masekela (former SABC board member) and temporary board member Suzanne Vos. The DA, Cope and the ID objected to the appointments of David, Barbara, Clifford, Desmond and Ben, complaining about the political nature of the process. The 12 names still need to be approved by President Jacob Zuma.
