We know the government offers rebates and the NFVF provides funding to productions. But why should private investors put their money behind local filmmakers? Kim Crowie reports.

Filmmaking is a multi-million dollar business, and as such, presents a unique opportunity for investment. That said, it’s not an easy task persuading people to part with their finances, particularly if they are not guarantors, renowned film producers, or government or film bodies that offer various types of funding to productions annually. Often it takes years for a film to secure the funding they need in order to forge ahead with production and post-production phases – and often it’s in the marketing stages that one needs to be particularly savvy in putting bums in seats.
