Chasing Migada Productions is making it’s first independent feature film. It is set in the world of castings and is a “Clerks” meets “40 Year Old Virgin” kind of comedy in black and white. “Casting Me…” is a film about relationships and sex with a sweet centre and a great ending. Chasing Migada Productions wants to target not just the South African but also the international market, therefore it is a story which can happen anywhere in the world. Chasing Migada Productions is planning to screen and distribute the film in as many countries as possible.
Story line: Paul is a frustrated but likeable Casting Director who has dreams of finally making his own feature film. His girlfriend Chloe has broken up with him and he hates his job although he has great colleagues at the agency in Rueben and Janet. He lives in a flat with his friend, the gay computer nerd Nic. To get his life on track again and win back his girlfriend he decides to make a film about his job, love life and all the funny things that happen behind the scenes at the casting agency !
Writer/Director: Quinton Lavery, who directed many music- and corporate videos wrote a hilarious semi-autobiographic script and he’ll direct it as well.
Cast: The cast of well known South African actors and comedians is lead by stand-up comedian and actor Paul Snodgrass who was just invited to the world famous Comedy Festival in Montreal/Canada. He also appeared on many radio and TV-shows. The female lead role is performed by Roxanne Prentice who starred in Operation Kranich and Getting Out Alive. Lots of guest stars like Colin Moss, Louw Venter, Rob Van Vuuren, Brendan Murray, Bjorn Steinbach and FHM-model Jenna Saras complete the illustrious supporting cast with Jonathan Hearns (“Hansie”) and Raph Kossew (“Charlie Jade”)
Budget: Thanks to a number of sponsors who supported the movie with free/minimal charged wardrobe (Lee Jeans, Puma, Piele Shirts), equipment (Media Film Services, Visual Impact), props (Assegai Lube, Rikki’s Taxis), food (Buzz café, Butler’s Pizza) and locations (Traffik Studio, Armoury Boxing Studio, & Union, Labia Theaters) the movie has a record low budget of R 35.000. Another reason for this achievement is that Cast and Crew provide all their hard work for free or next to nothing.
Schedule: The film gets shot in June/July 2011 in several locations all over Cape Town and then completed in post production by November 2011 to send it to the Sundance Film Festival in the US and many other festivals around the world.
Since Chasing Migada Productions has good contacts in the film industry in South Africa and the US we’re confident that this “independent-movie-gem” will find its way to movie theatres and video shops in a not so distant future.
